It was becoming clearer the more they talked, and the clearer it became the further Steve’s stomach dropped. There was a lot Bucky didn’t remember, but clearly some he did with a little prompting; the problem was that he had no feelings to go along with those memories. It was like watching a film about someone else’s life; he could recall the events but had no emotional connection to them.
That sounded worse than not remembering at all.
“The whys are always the hardest part,” Steve replied, trying not to let his hurt show. How was he supposed to do this? He could help Bucky remember things, but how could he help him remember how he felt during those moments?
